Students Effort Support Underserved Students with Art

At a December 11^th holiday bazaar hosted by the San Dieguito Art Guild, The Stardust Arts brought out the talents of many and the creativity of all young art students.

Participating in their first holiday bazaar to raise funds for underserved , students created a rainbow of items for the holiday. Ornaments, beautiful holiday cards, painted birdhouses and boxes amazed onlookers to know that they were created by 2^nd – third grades from South Oceanside Elementary School and the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, Griset Branch in Encinitas. Additional Fund raising items were donated by Vicky Kays of Carlsbad, Friends of Stardust Parents, 2 Standup Guys, Carlsbad, Karla Nederhof, Jewler of Rancho Bernardo, Tony Shelfo of Oceanside and the Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad, CA.

Stardust student Kyle Cotton, and his parents of Oceanside, showed their support for the students and arrived just in time to see Kyle’s beautiful beach box, and cards purchased by Ethel Merritt, a previous developer of grant programs for the arts..”This is wonderful to see my sons; first sale”, stated Johnna and Kurt Cotton, the proud parents , as they watched their son beam with pride as he reached out to Ethel with a “thank you for supporting The Stardust Arts”, to their delight.

The event was successful in bringing in four new students into the next upcoming 2012 art session with instructor Cheryl Ehlers. The numbers might not sound like much too many, but to the 16 students that spent three weeks creating all the wonderful holiday creations, that was a complete success. They reached their goal of personally participating in something that gave them the joy and confidence to share their art and give back.

The professional printed Holiday Cards can still be purchased and viewed at www.thestardustarts.com and will remain available online until January 2012. Every dollar reaches toward the higher goal for more student sponsorships by Stardust Arts.

The Stardust Arts is presently being sponsored at the Boyd and Girls Clubs in San Diegutio by the City of Encnitas and Mizel Family Foundation Community Grant.

We are joint ventured with a non-profit, Dr. Wilderness Show and we are seeking sponsors and funding to continue our work for 2012 to reach out to the underserved and provide them an opportunity to experience the development and creativity in art. The program is recognized by the California State Assembly and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors and will work with any underserved groups to bring art into their lives and make a difference. The Stardust Arts at the "kids" activity art during the the Art in the Village, Carlsbad, CA, August 14, 2011 served over 832 children during the event. What a treat!

What a wonderful fun day for children and parents alike bringing together all that appreciate the value of art to the young and old in a community.

The Stardust Arts aspires to visual art instruction in the development of creativity and imagination in the youth and was created as an after-school program for children in grades three through five. As a teacher and mentor the goals are to encourage artistic perception and expression by teaching basic techniques, color theory and artistic styles, developing imagination, and building competency through consistent effort.

The joining of The Dr. Wilderness Show, Inc. and The Stardust Arts will provide the funding support and avenue’s required for The Stardust Arts to expand it scope into additional cities in San Diego County, providing art to the underserved and special needs children, as well as all those talented children that seek an avenue for their creativity and imagination in visual art.

Cheryl Ehlers and The Stardust Arts Receives Recognition from California State Assembly

The Stardust Arts program created by Cheryl Ehlers for the youth in North County, is recognized for her commitment to the youth in the community.

August 11, 2010, Carlsbad, CA, the 74th District, California State Assembly recognized and honored The Stardust Arts Program.

Assemblymember Martin Garrick recently signed a letter of appreciation and presented a Certificate of Recognition to Cheryl Ehlers honoring The Stardust Arts Program for it's commitment in the communities of Carlsbad, Oceanside and Encinitas.

The program has now touched over 1900 youth and is still counting since it's inception on September 5,2009. With astonishing results, The Stardust Arts has "reached for the stars" and "created dreams" in art for all those that have crossed her path. May the memories and lessons in art remain in those minds of the
youth and carry them into a future of possibilities abound. Lest they never forget, "anything is possible" if you believe in yourself.

The program is staging for the Oceanside Unified School District's schools that have requested the program return to their schools. Negotiation are in process at this time to include at least three of the schools in a year round program encompassing the methods and talents of Cheryl Ehlers art concepts to be provided to
their students.

Carlsbad, CA -- Move Over Famous Artists! The Stardust Arts artists are taking over the spotlight! Cheryl Ehlers, the Artist Outreach Program grant recipient for Kenneth A. Picerene Foundation and a volunteer school Art Teacher, has teamed up with Artsonia, www.artsonia.com -- the world's largest online kid's art museum -- to display the students' artwork.

Anyone can view the school gallery online at: www.artsonia.com/schools/Stardust1. Visitors can browse the artwork in the school gallery by grade level, or by specific exhibits. The Stardust Arts students join thousands of students from over 100 countries whose artwork is showcased on Artsonia. "This program is a wonderful way to get parents and family members more involved in Art Education," said Cheryl Ehlers.

Headquartered in Gurnee, Ill., Artsonia was established in 2000 as an online kid's art museum providing free, educational resources for kids, families and schools to create art projects. Stardust Arts: Well Rounded Education, Well Grounded Artist

Cheryl Ehlers has done something “they” said couldn’t be done. She created The Stardust Arts, that will be bringing art education to the Oceanside Unified School District beginning early September. Like many of her multi-media art creations, Cheryl began with an emotion and an awareness of a grant opportunity. The Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation’s “Artist Outreach Project” offers accomplished artists an opportunity to contribute to their community by providing art experiences to an underserved, local group.

The Stardust Arts Program Cheryl created is an after-school program for children in grades three through five. This art teacher and mentor’s goals are to encourage artistic perception and expression by teaching basic techniques, color theory and artistic styles, developing imagination, and building competency through consistent effort. Cheryl’s love for children comes from seeing their active imaginations and their free access to emotion, “the essence of all artistic expression.” Cheryl is an effervescent local personality. Not the stereotypical right-brained introvert artist, Cheryl is full of exuberance and interesting questions. It is no wonder that the Oceanside school district has opened their arms to her art classes. With their administrative support, Cheryl’s enthusiasm and the Foundation’s funding of supplies, more students are signing up than were planned for in the project’s original scope.

Cheryl’s accomplishments were a part of qualifying for the grant award and selling of The Stardust Arts Project. A local artist since 1982, Cheryl’s works can be seen in many local galleries including the Del Mar Art Center Gallery. A current exhibit of her florals can be seen at Carlsbad’s Le Passage French Bistro at 2961 State St. This is her and bistro owner Laura Reyer’s contribution to the “Thursdays on the Coast” evenings that support local commerce, the arts and the wider community. Many locals know the bistro for the scrumptious and artful chocolate creations sold at the Chocolate Bar there.

“Creating art can become a great resource for living in the real world,” Cheryl points out. Art allows the practitioner to think creatively, openly express their feelings, learn to accept feedback, comprehend how elements in a composition fit together, build confidence, step out of restrictions without hurting others, try different approaches to practical problems and learn to reinvent one’s perspective. “Education without art is not a well rounded education,” she says with her actions and heart.

Because of the growing response to the program, donations of additional art supplies are being sought. A local venue to host a January and June student recital is yet to be found.
